Conroe, Texas, is moving its Christmas light display to downtown’s Founders Plaza this year.

This year, visitors will be able to walk through a roughly half-acre park in the city that’s about 40 miles north of Houston.

The trail is scheduled to open Dec. 1, after the city’s tree lighting at Heritage Park, and remain open through Dec. 26, according to the Houston Chronicle. The change is part of a monthlong slate of holiday events organized by the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Downtown Conroe Association.

On opening night, Christmas Around the Square will turn downtown streets into a holiday marketplace from 6:45 to 9:30 p.m., with music, crafts and shopping. The annual Conroe Christmas Parade is set for noon Dec. 12 and will follow an “Americana Christmas” theme recognizing the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The city says the downtown location is intended to bring visitors to local shops and restaurants. The Convention and Visitors Bureau and Downtown Conroe Association have also discussed expanding the holiday attractions in the future, potentially creating a corridor between downtown and Margaritaville Lake Resort on Lake Conroe.
