Here’s why PPG Place tree is already up.

The people who manage PPG Place in Pittsburgh already have the massive tree at the ice rink up.

And it’s freaked out some people who think October is too early. (Even though we know it’s never too early!)

So, why is it up so early?

PPG Place owners installed a new tree, complete with 100,000 LED lights that can be programmed to displays and music.

“The old tree was past its useful life,” Andy Wisniewski, the senior vice president for Highwoods Properties (which owns PPG Place) told the Pgh Trib. “This is the most technologically advanced tree you can get. It will be a wonderful addition to the city.”

And, just like you do in your own home, Highwood Properties wanted to make sure it worked right before debuting it on Nov. 19.

PPG Place will officially light the tree on Nov. 19 — one day before Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s Light Up Night event, which is planned for Nov. 20 (a Saturday).

Again this year, the American Cancer Society will help kickoff the holiday season with Highwood Properties and PPG Place’s ice rink and tree with the Tribute of Light celebration. The event is planned for Nov. 19 (and not Nov. 20, for some reason).
