Crossing Mannheim Steamroller off my Christmas bucket list was everything I hoped it would be — and then some.

I caught the “red” touring ensemble of Mannheim Steamroller live at the Warner Theatre in Erie on Dec. 2.

For nearly two hours, the group delivered the kind of show that reminds you why they’ve dominated Christmas music for four decades.

From start to finish, the performance struck the perfect blend of classical elegance and rock-inspired energy — all wrapped in the group’s signature New Age-infused sound.

While band members may rotate from year to year, the collective identity of Mannheim Steamroller remains unmistakable. It’s a sound that doesn’t just accompany the holiday season — it defines them.

What stood out most to me was how this ensemble not only performed flawlessly, but also connected with the audience.

Jackson Tower and Anna Lackaff, both on keyboards, were especially engaging, bringing a sense of fun to the stage as they interacted with the crowd and played off each other’s energy.

Tom Sharpe, on drums, nearly stole the show with his energy and precision. His solos were intense — the kind of performance that gives you chills in the best way.

Logan Mitchell, Mark Agnor and Christopher Forte rounded out the lineup with strong performances that added depth and character to the overall sound — each one bringing something distinct to the signature Mannheim blend.

And let’s not forget the symphony ensemble — precise, expressive and perfectly balanced with the rest of the group. It was a reminder that, even in an era of pre-recorded backing tracks and stripped-down holiday tours, there’s still something unmatched about hearing this music live with a full complement of musicians.

This same Mannheim Steamroller group will roll through Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center on Dec. 11.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering Mannheim Steamroller for the first time, this tour is a must-see.
