Stop wasting so much single-use gift wrap.
Americans toss out 25 percent more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day than during any other time of the year, according to data.
That comes out to about 1 million extra tons per week.
Among the biggest wastes? Gift wrap and related items.
Think about this: If every American family wrapped just 3 presents in reused materials, it would save enough paper to cover 45,000 football fields. The 2.65 billion Christmas cards sold each year in the U.S. could fill a football field 10 stories high. If we each sent one card less, we’d save 50,000 cubic yards of paper.
This site lists eight alternatives to traditional gift wrap, including repurposing old newspapers, 6-pack beer boxes or cereal boxes.
