Buckle up because Adele is just like us me!
The popular musician is a Christmas village collection addict.
Adele says she owns 800 (!!!!) Christmas village pieces — saying they fill two bedrooms of her $57 million Beverly Hills mansion.
Her collection intensified so much that she admitted to having to hide her addiction from beau Rich Paul.
She’s even picked up entire collections from estate sales.
“I realized it’s (a) bit grim, and I’m not making a joke. I realized quite quickly on eBay that there were lots of estate sales going on of people’s collections of these small houses. So I bought all of them,” she said at a concert.
“I don’t want to put them into storage because they were people’s collections in their lifetimes. So, I’ve been buying things on Amazon — really wide cupcake displays and things like that — to try and work out a way of displaying these f-cking villages. And I can’t sell them or give them away again because this is from people’s lives. I don’t know what to do.”
One thing she said she didn’t account for was electricity of the little village pieces.
“And, also, I thought they would be battery-operated,” she said. “You can’t do that with these things because there’s lots of moving parts going on.”
“So I have about 800 f-cking houses and 800 different sets of cables that I need to find a way of plugging in somewhere.”
Depending on the brand — Department 56, Lemax, drug stores, etc. — prices can range from maybe $10 to several hundred dollars for buildings. People and other accessories for villages can also span the same range.
And that’s, of course, buying new. Resellers using eBay, Facebook Marketplace and other sites can mark up prices depending on the rarity of a piece. Estate sales, flea markets and thrift shops also have village pieces for sale — sometimes at decent prices.
She said when she first showed her boyfriend a few of the houses that arrived, he said, “OK, don’t get carried away. Don’t get carried away.”
Oops.
At a recent show during her Las Vegas residency, Adele told concertgoers: “You’re going to think I’m an old woman. I went on eBay and suddenly discovered light-up miniature Christmas villages. I went a bit crazy. I’ve spent a lot of money.”
